willpower is a general strength that improves everything along with it . in fact,,willpower is a better predictor of how well you do in school or how successful you are at work, than intelligence. if we want to improve our lives, willpower is not bad place to start.

will Power

it has to be noted that willpower is like a battery. when used, it slowly gets depleted. But if it’s limited, are we doomed to fail at our goals?

willpower is the highest in the morning and slowly degrades over the course of the day. However, if you want your willpower to be full in the morning, you need to get some quality sleep first.

one of the reason sleep is critical for self-control, is because your brain requires blood glucose as a fuel. especially the front part of the brain, the prefrontal cortex. This brain region has been associated in controlling behavior and decision making. when we don’t get enough sleep, our prefrontal cortex get sluggish and less responsive.

so while lack of sleep can impair the prefrontal cortex, there’s a way to actually increase it’s size and efficiency. The answer is slow breathing meditation. But why slow breathing ? The reason is it increase our heart rate variability. Heart rate variability is a variation in the time interval between heartbeats. To exert self control, the heart rate has to go down, but the variability needs to go up. studies have shown, heart rate variability starts increasing as the breathing rate drops below 12 breaths per minute. For best results, you have to slow down breathing to 4 to 6 breaths per minute.

All of us wish to achieve many things in life. But usually many of us do not succeed in achieving anything. And often we tend to curse our fate or misfortune. But the fact is that we have only ourselves to blame for our failures. Is there such thing as fate? If our Will-Power is strong, we can easily overcome all hurdles. The concept of fate is man-made. It is not enough that we wish to achieve something. We should have the proper willpower to carry out our planes.

Even a cursory study of the history of human civilization tells us that all great things have always been achieved by men of will. Great men become great because from childhood onward they had willed to be great. The notable achievements of science, art and literature are all the result of endeavours of MEN OF WILL who worked against heavy odds to achieve their goals.

Without such determination, we will not be putting in enough strength to make our plan a success. Apart from that even when the scope of our plane looks rather dull, we will look out for fresh opening for success. On the other hand, a good plane with enough scope will not succeed if there is lack of WILL. So what matters is that we have the proper drive or determination to carry on with our planes in the face of obstacles.

A few examples would suffice to drive the point home. Columbus could discover America only because he stood firm against all the storms of difficulties that threatened him. Nothing could deter him from the path that he had chosen for himself. Mr. and Madam Curie could discover Radium – a great boon to humanity – only because they were persons of WILL prepared to lay down even their lives in the pursuit of their ideal.

Great conquerors, like Napoleon, were all men of determination whose will force carried everything before it. Coming nearer home, we get the inspiring example of Hillary and Tenzing who stood against all the dangers of high altitudes in their resolve to reach the top of Everest. Urged by immense WILL-FORCE, Gandhi demonstrated to the world conclusively that it is WILL that counts and not the physical might.

first time you were learning to drive your car, you were very cautious and slowly learning it. After some months of practice, you become proficient at it that you can drive and listen to music at the same time. How come this happened? what is speciality of our brain that makes it easy to do things after some practice? How can we make use of it to improve the willpower and self-control needed for our success in life? make a firm resolve to improve your willpower even when finding your goals hard to achieve. Always remember – the speciality of our Human brain is such that it can help us focus on tasks that are hard but beneficial in the long run as compared to seeking Immediate gratification. Make it work to success in your life.

To be successful in life takes a lot of hard work and more importantly, the willpower needed to tackle challenges and achieve our goals. To improve our willpower, we need to practice everyday . Meditation as a daily practice to help improve our willpower.
During meditation, we focus our mind on the object of the meditation.

The mind , by it’s nature , wanders in many directions . However, if we practice meditation every day, we are exerting our willpower to stay focused. Eventually, we will succeed in our meditation, and the willpower will increase in every other aspect of our life. the best way to meditate is to focus the mind on the supreme Lord that way our mind will be purified and elevated as well.

WILL is a great force both for good and evil. It makes impossible things possible. The story of man’s progress from chaos to order, from barbarism to civilization, is nothing but a story of his WILL POWER pitted against all the hostile forces of nature. This WILL POWER can be achieved by one of us by continuous process of concentration on noble objectives. Once acquired, it will enable us to have our way in all things.
